Magic Circles & how to break them
A downloadable game
An evil sorcerer has taken over your town! It’s up to you and your party to break his magic circle and put a stop to his tyranny... Beware - this Wizard is known for his mischievious enchantments and powerful attacks.
Setting up:
Roll a die to determine who plays the Wizard. Or choose - you might like playing the evil guy! The other players are ‘the party’. The Wizard must now create the magic circle. The circle must contain Magic Circle Cards equal to twice the party size plus 1 (if there are 3 party members you use 7 cards). Once the magic circle has been created, place both decks of cards within reach. Each player draws 5 cards from their corresponding deck.
Playing the Game:
The Party:
Your aim is to break the Wizard’s magic circle. To do this, all Magic Circle Cards need to be flipped face down. To flip them, two or more party members need to successfully resolve a Collaboration Card in the same turn. Party members also have a limited number of hit points. You start with 3 hitpoints, and can only regain them using healing potion cards. If your hitpoints become zero, your character has gone to sleep, and can no longer fight (you’re out).
The Wizard:
You must stop the party by tactically using the cards in your hand to either attack or hinder the party’s progress.
Turns:
The game is played in turns, with each player placing the card they wish to play that turn face down in front of them. Once all players have a card in play, the cards resolve. The Wizard’s card always resolves first, and play moves clockwise. If two or more players resolve a Collaboration Card, a Magicle Circle Card gets flipped face down. After 10 rounds of play, if the party manage to flip all of the Magic Circle Cards, they have beaten the wizard and have saved the town! If not...well... use your imagination.
